The Environment
August 24th 2010

One way of helping to protect the environment, not just for ourselves but also for future generations, is to burn wood to heat your home.
Fossil fuels such as coal, oil and gas evolve from natural material that
absorbed carbon dioxide from the atmosphere millions of year ago. The
difference between wood and
fossil fuels is one of time scale.
Burning wood also releases carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. However, the same amount of carbon dioxide is absorbed by the tree whilst growing over the previous few months or years, creating a balance between carbon emitted and absorbed.
Therefore burning wood as a fuel is considered to be carbon neutral.

In January 2010 we decided to purchase a wood burning stove for our villa in
Uzumlu. After making a number of enquiries and receiving several recommendations
from friends in Uzumlu. We contacted P.U.S. in Fethiye. who supply Aarow make
fires. These fires are produced and made in England, and exported to Turkey
Their smart new offices are situated in the centre of Fethiye. We were well received, and arrangements were made for the civil engineer Sinan and his colleague to visit us and provide information. They came the following day Friday 15th January 2010. and calculated the output required for the size of room and showed us a number of fire designs that suited. We also required a brick fireplace surround and they advised they had a builder that had been trained to fit their fires and build us the brick fireplace.
After visiting their offices and shown a number of fires we decided on a Stratford Si 140c wood burning fire and a brick surround which would be handmade in small grey brick. The cost of the fire was the same as ones advertised in England, and the fireplace build was costed at a very reasonable price.
The work started after the weekend on the Monday, 18th January, the room was totally covered in plastic sheeting and work began. As we were having a completely new fireplace there was bound to be an amount of dust and debris from the handmade bricks they made but the workmen did all they could to minimise the dust.
After 4 days work the project was completed. The workmen removed all the
debris cleared the room completely and put everything back in place.
Sinan showed us how to work the fire and provided us with burning material.
The result was a fantastic fire and surround, the warmth provided was excellent. The fire was lit in the afternoon and would last all evening, in fact in the morning there were still glowing embers in the grate.
The fire itself is very smart and efficient, and provides us with all the heat required. The fireplace brickwork was first-class.
I would like to thank Sinan and his colleagues for the excellent service they provided, in fact a few days after the installation, Sinan called unexpectedly to see if everything was ok and asked if there were any problems. I would have no hesitation in recommending P.U.S to anyone who is thinking of having a wood burning stove, whether it is a single fire or central heating system.
Yours faithfully,
Geoff and Victoria

Lyn & Pete - Uzumlu
We recently built a home in Uzumlu which included electric under floor heating. Before we moved in the price of electricity rose dramatically which meant that using the under floor heating as a primary source of heat was very costly. We had also installed a 5kw inset wood burner mainly for aesthetic purposes. Now, due to the high cost of the electric under floor heating we decided to install a larger wood burning stove for our primary source of heating.
We contacted
'Heating Solutions' in Fethiye
and decided
upon an EcoBurn 11kw multi-fuel stove which appeared to be the best choice for
us. Of course the work required that our existing stone fireplace would
need remodelling which we were assured would not present a problem.
On the first day of installation the workmen took great care in sectioning off one end of the lounge to ensure that not too much dust and debris ended up in other parts of the house. The remodelling of the fireplace and installation took four days in total and the end result exceeded our expectations. The remodelling blending in perfectly with the existing stone fireplace.
We used our new stove last winter and found that not only did it give all the necessary heat that we required but on one fuelling the stove could burn between 4 to 5 hours.
All in all a job very well done!
